It’s exercise, right?

Wrong.

How about sticking to a healthy diet?

Nope.

Eating less?

Again, wrong.

Being properly motivated is the one thing you need in order to lose weight.

Because no matter how good your weight loss plan is on paper, if you don’t have any motivation, you’re not going to make any progress.

So how can we foster this weight loss motivation?

There are many, many, many different ways to build motivation.

I’m going to look at a few in this article, and hopefully they’ll help you out too.

Weight Loss Motivation

For me, the best way to get motivated is by reading a good quote or two.

I’ll list a few of my faves below, along with an explanation of why they’re so good.

Weight Loss Motivation Quotes:

Basically, stop putting things off because your situation isn’t perfect.

It will never be perfect!

Stop waiting for something that will never happen, and get started on your weight loss today.

“It is better to take many small steps in the right direction than to make a great leap forward only to stumble backward.”

– Old Chinese Proverb

This is something I always say (in my own words…)

It’s better to make many small changes, gradually, over a long period of time, than it is to make a gigantic change in a small amount of time.

Why?

Because you’re far more likely to be able to maintain small, gradual changes than massive, instant changes.

And we all know that consistency is key for losing weight.

You might have thought that these quotes sounded familiar, and you’d be right!

Weight Loss Motivation Pictures:

Sometimes, when I’m feeling particularly lazy, I’ll get on google and look up some motivational pictures.

For weight loss motivation, the best pictures are by far before and after pics.

Weight Loss Motivation Stories:

When the pictures aren’t getting me motivated, I like to read some good weight loss stories.

I’ll show you a couple of my favourites, and I’ll also share with you my own weight loss story.

Story #1 – Jonesy

This is actually a story taken straight from one of the Burning Fitness mailing list subscribers.

(He sent it in after thanking me for all the helpful advice :D)

Basically, Jonesy was an overweight kid, and grew up to be an overweight adult.

It wasn’t until he was about 50 that he turned his life around.

You see, he went in for a routine doctors check up and walked out with diabetes!

It was an awakening for him, so he decided he needed to lose weight and become healthier.

He started eating healthier foods and exercising, and before he knew it, he was losing weight.

After a few years of hard work and dedication, he was fit, healthy, and his diabetes was much easier to manage.

Good job Jonesy!

Story #2 – Ash

Ash? That’s me!

I was overweight for the majority of my childhood and well up into my teen years.

I forget the precise age, but when I was around 17 I decided that I’d had enough, and set out to lose weight.

At first I had no clue; but slowly and surely I started learning more and more about weight loss, and finally managed to lose weight.

I lost around 60 pounds in under a year, and look at me now!

I’m running a successful weight-loss website, working with clients and helping them achieve weight-loss, and am currently in the process of finishing my third book!

Go me, right? Heh.

Weight Loss Motivation Tips:

If none of that got you motivated, here are a few of my top weight loss motivation tips.

1. Watch motivational videos on YouTube.

My fave has to be the “keep moving forward” quote from Rocky 3, playing over a video of my favourite childhood show “dragon ball z”.

2. Think about WHY you want to lose weight.

Seriously, why do you want to lose weight?

To look better?

Maybe so you can play with your kids without getting out of breath?

Or, do you want to attract the ladies with a sexy body?

Whatever the reason is for you, give it a thought right now.

Just imagine that you’ve succeeded; that you have your dream body.

How great will that feel?

I bet you’re starting to feel pretty pumped up right now, huh?

Like you just want to get out there and hit the gym and make your dreams come true.

Every time you’re losing motivation, just think about WHY you’re losing weight in the first place, and I guarantee you’ll obtain a lot of weight loss motivation.
