Many All of the articles we publish here at Burning Fitness are about specific weight-loss/fitness topics, which is great if it’s a topic that you want to read about, but it doesn’t give us much freedom to talk about anything else.
For example, in a recent article about sex I had a totally unrelated little weight loss tip that I wanted to share, but couldn’t, because it would feel out of place.
And thus, this little doozy of an article about various weight loss tips was created.
(And it is a doozy.)
So lean back in your computer chair, lay down in your bed, or take a load off wherever it is that you’re reading this, because you’re about to read some of the best, the most helpful, (and the most fun) weight loss tips of 2015.
Healthy Weight Loss Tips
Let’s start things off with the most important weight loss tips, the super duper healthy ones.
1. Drink more freakin water.
As the first entry on the list of epic weight loss tips, I knew this one needed to make a “splash” (pun absolutely intended.)
But fo’ real homie, you need to drink more water.
If there’s one healthy weight loss tip that you take away from this article and implement, please let it be this one.
2. Cut out processed foods, ASAP.
What I, personally, mean by “processed foods” are any foods that you can’t find out in the wild.
If it’s in a box or packet, chances are it’s processed.
While this is just a general rule I try to live by, it was also instrumental in my own weight loss battle.
SUPER TIP: When you’re at the supermarket next, make sure you stick to the outer edges and avoid the inner aisles.
If you do this, you’ll only end up buying the healthier foods; fruits, vegetables, meats, nuts, eggs, etc.
3. Aim to hit 150 minutes a week of moderate exercise!
This isn’t a random number I pulled out of my ass, it’s universally regarded as the minimum amount of exercise you should be doing every week.
And you know what?
I agree with them, too.
If you managed to go for a brisk walk for 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week, I’d be willing to bet money that you’d lose weight too.
4. Sleep, sleep, sleep! It’s good for your health!
While I don’t agree with Shape that sleep is the most important thing for losing weight, it certainly does play a major part in the process.
Back when I was trying to lose weight (I was 16), I used to stay up until around 3AM, and then get up at around 7AM for school.
You do the math.
(I didn’t get much sleep back then.)
How about how it affected me?
I was more likely to “give in” to temptations and binge eat bad food…
I was more likely to skip sport at school or skip a workout when I got home because I was too tired…
I was grumpy and mean, and it probably made me a more negative person in general…
And then school finished, I started getting more sleep, and viola, I lost weight.
Obviously the sleep alone didn’t make me lose weight, but it definitely helped, and you should try to get more sleep too.
5. If you like fish, buy some Tuna right NOW.
Hell, even if you don’t like fish, you should totally start buying/eating Tuna.
Here are the stats for the tuna I eat. (John West, Unflavoured Tuna in Spring-water.)
A 95g tin contains:
- 69 calories
- 1g of fat
- 1g of sugar
- 16g of protein (!)
If you’ve been tracking or counting calories, you’d know that this is an insanely low amount.
And not only are there few calories, Tuna is very, very, very filling!
I often only bring a single tin with me when I go to work, and it’s enough to tide me over until I get home for dinner.
Salmon is pretty good too; but has more fat/calories, so speaking purely in terms of weight loss, Tuna is superior.
Weight Loss Tips For Women
Next up, I’ve got a few weight loss tips that are exclusively for women!
So if you’re a man or a teenager, go ahead and scroll down, and you’ll find some weight loss tips more geared towards you.
1. Plan for your period.
This weight loss tip was actually given to me by my awesome girlfriend, as she said it’s probably something most other women go through as well.
Apparently, when you’re experiencing your period, you have a tendency to “indulge” in foods that you otherwise wouldn’t when attempting to lose weight.
My girlfriends proposed solution to this conundrum is to create tasty snacks that might seem like they’re unhealthy (because they taste so good), but are actually relatively healthy.
And because she’s so smart, she’s given me a recipe that she uses herself.
Grab a bunch of dates, walnuts, and some cocoa, and blend them until they’ve mixed together.
Roll them into balls, and roll them around in shredded coconut.
Put them in the fridge for a while, and then when they’re cold, eat them!
I can confirm that they are in fact delicious (taste kind of like chocolate, honestly), and they’re also really healthy.
Make sure to have some kind of healthy but delicious food ready for when your period hits!
2. Find a weight-loss partner.
This weight loss tip can absolutely be used by anyone, but it’s generally women who would get the most out of it.
(Probably because, on average, you’re more open about losing weight to friends/family than men are.)
If you can find a family member or a friend who is also trying to lose weight, and you can exercise/cook/hang out with them often, you’ll be much more likely to lose weight permanently.
And I’m not just making this up, there was a study done that confirmed my theory; having a weight-loss buddy works.
3. Embrace the (green) smoothies.
Again, everyone could benefit from this tip, but not everyone will.
In my experience, men aren’t really all that interested in making smoothies with fruit and vegetables, but women are.
While I didn’t really make any smoothies when I was losing weight, I have one for breakfast nearly every day now.
I throw in a couple of eggs, a handful of spinach, a handful of mixed berries, a banana or two, and some coconut water/milk or almond milk.
Put the blender on high for 1-2 minutes, and viola, you’ve got breakfast.
Low in calories (the more veggies you throw in, the less calories there will be, is the general rule), quick and easy to make, and tastes great!
Plus, as you get more adventurous, you can start experimenting with different fruits/vegetables, and even create your own specialties!
Weight Loss Tips For Men
The weight loss tips listed above are primarily intended for women…
Here are some weight loss tips that are only for you guys!
1. Get into the gym ASAP.
As well as the 150 minutes a week of moderate exercise you should be doing, if you’re a dude, you would gain a lot by heading to the gym and lifting weights.
There are a plethora of reasons why lifting weights (or resistance training in general) is great for weight-loss, especially when it comes to men.
First of all, it boosts your testosterone, which leads to fat loss.
Second of all, having a higher level of testosterone leads to building more muscle mass.
So what do we get when we have +muscles, and -fat?
We have a lethal combination that’s guaranteed to get you your dream body as soon as possible.
2. Have more sex.
Bet you didn’t see this one coming, heh.
(Or maybe you did, since I talked about it at the start of this article.)
Anyway, listen carefully men; sex leads to weight loss.
Much like lifting weights, the more sex you have, the more muscle mass you’ll develop.
(As well as burning calories during sex itself.)
If you’ve been looking for a reason to have more sex with your girl/guy, this might just be it.
3. Start drinking protein shakes.
The humble protein shake is a weapon of mass destruction if utilized correctly.
On one hand, you’ve got a hell of a lot of protein.
(Assuming you’re using the good stuff, and not the overpriced crap you’d find at most “supplement” shops.)
And with that protein comes a whole host of benefits.
Protein is filling as heck, so you’ll find yourself less hungry after downing a nice refreshing protein shake.
The protein in a shake will also promote muscle and tissue repair, which is important if you want your muscles to grow (and your belly to shrink!)
Overall, if you can find yourself some good whey protein isolate, it’s definitely worth buying some and at the very least having a shake after every workout.
Weight Loss Tips For Teens
Don’t worry teens, I haven’t forgotten about your weight loss tips.
Here are a few weight loss tips for those who are still in school and/or who live with their parents.
1. Do your own shopping (if you can).
This isn’t backed up by any studies, but I’m gonna make a bold claim and say that the reason you’re overweight is because your parents/guardians/whoever stock your house with bad food.
This is a bit tricky to overcome, especially if you have little or no say in what food gets bought, so here is what you can do.
First, try to explain to your parents (or whoever buys the food) that you want to lose weight, and that you’d appreciate it if they bought healthier alternatives to what they’re currently buying.
Give them some suggestions!
Replace white rice with brown rice, replace ice cream with greek yoghurt, and replace candy/sweets with fruit!
Those are just a few of the many suggestions you could make to improve the quality of food found in your house.
If that doesn’t work, you’re just going to have to buy healthy food yourself.
It might seem like a major hassle (spending what little money you do have on healthy food), but just think about how great you’ll feel in the future when you no longer have to worry about losing weight anymore!
2. Take advantage of your PE class.
Whether you call it PE (physical education), gym, or sport, every school has that one class where you’re forced (or at least encouraged) to participate in some kind of physical activity.
I know what it’s like as the fat kid to not want to join in because you might not be as fast, or as good, or you might look dumb, but trust me, it’s well worth it.
The extra hour or so a week of sport in school could easily double your weight loss, but for that to happen you need to get out there and join in!
If there’s a particular sport you’re good at or enjoy, why not join a local after school or weekend team?
You get to play a fun sport, and you get to lose weight while doing it.
Quick Weight Loss Tips
The weight loss tips listed above are great, but they all lack one thing.
They’re not QUICK.
You can’t implement them RIGHT NOW to start seeing results as soon as TOMORROW.
The next couple of weight loss tips will be just that; super quick, and guaranteed to help you lose weight.
1. Start integrating exercise into your relaxation time.
You’re probably not going to like this one, because it means you’re going to have to get up and do exercise while you’re chilling out.
Don’t worry, you can still enjoy your well deserved time-out, but you can do it while burning fat, too.
Next time you’re watching TV and the ads come on, I want you to drop down to the ground and give me as many push-ups as you can do.
Seriously, push yourself until your arms give out.
Then you can get back onto your couch and keep watching your show.
Next ad break, get up and do as many squats as you can, again, until your body can’t possibly do another.
You get the idea?
You can do the same thing when you’re at your computer, or in bed on your phone.
Just set an alarm for every 15 minutes, and when it goes off, do a different exercise for 30-90 seconds.
You’d be surprised by how much this will help you to lose weight and sculpt a sexy body.
2. Aim for 10,000 steps a day, and then DOUBLE it.
This might just be because for my birthday I got a new Garmin vivofit, but man, I’m addicted to hitting that 10k step goal everyday.
And it was only a few hours ago that I took a look at my wrist and thought, “there’s no way I’m gonna hit 10,000 steps today, what should I do?”
Do you know what I did?
I started running around my room.
Just running in a circle past my bed, around my couch, and back to my computer, over and over and over again, for about 10 minutes.
All so I could hit that goal.
Which got me thinking, if I’m that addicted to hitting small, overall pointless goals, wouldn’t everyone else be too?
Well, maybe, but even if you’re not the type of person who would be addicted to hitting a step-goal, you should do it anyway.
If you’ve got a current gen smart phone, it’s probably got a built in accelerometer, so all you need to do is download an app for it.
And then get out there (like, right now) and start hitting those daily step goals.
